Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to look at the issues which are troubling you in your life.

We work together on the issues that are troubling you at a pace and level with which you are comfortable.

It's important that you tell me how it's going so we regularly review our progress.

There is no agreed definition of the difference between counselling and psychotherapy.

My thinking is that there is a large overlap between the two but that psychotherapy may generally work at a more in-depth level where, perhaps, life itself has become a problem whereas counselling may look at a specific issue which is troubling you.

There are many different theoretical approaches when working as a counsellor or psychotherapist.

My training is as an Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist which means that I have studied a range of theories including psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, transactional analysis, transpersonal and bodywork. I believe that all of these approaches have valuable contributions to make. Integrative counselling and psychotherapy means that when working with you I may use a number of different techniques and interventions but never something that you feel uncomfortable with.

However the most important aspect when working with a counsellor or psychotherapist is in the relationship between us so it’s important to find someone you feel comfortable with.
